How to Write a Project Status Report
A good status report tells busy stakeholders what they need in 60 seconds. Write one that gets read.
For the full concept, see Status Report.
Steps
- Lead with an overall status (RAG: red/amber/green) and a one-line summary.
- Report progress against the plan β milestones hit and upcoming.
- Surface key risks and issues with owners and next steps.
- Show budget and schedule health (use EVM metrics if available).
- List decisions needed from stakeholders.
- Keep it consistent in format and cadence so readers know where to look.
