How to Manage Project Risks

Managing risk means deciding what might go wrong before it does — and having a plan ready.

For the full concept, see Risk Register.

Steps

  1. Identify risks via workshops, checklists and lessons learned.
  2. Assess each risk’s probability and impact and score it.
  3. Assign an owner to every significant risk.
  4. Choose a response: avoid, mitigate, transfer or accept.
  5. Define trigger conditions and concrete response actions.
  6. Review the risk register regularly and update as risks change.
